The first thing that came into my mind when I first saw a Craftsman Portable Table Saw was whether the significantly smaller tool packs the same features that its non-portable counterparts boast of. After all, it is no secret that the bigger-is-better rule generally applies to table saws.
Portability Is The Trend
On the other hand, I also thought that the slender frame of the 10-inch portable saw was perfect for doing on-site jobs or projects. Gone are the days when the typical table saw with its bulky body was confined in the woodwork shop of the contractor. Today, clients prefer to have contractors do jobs on site partly to ensure quality of the finish products and partly to eliminate the problem of transporting heavy and bulky projects such as doors and cabinets.
Craftsman Portable Table Saw: Stripped Down Yet Solid
The main problem with most portable versions of traditionally stationary tools is that a whole lot of their functionality is sacrificed for portability. Surprisingly, this is not the case with the Craftsman. Indeed, the power, accuracy, and safety that the traditional version of this tool is known for remain intact. With its 15 amp motor providing the push, this machine has all the attributes that make it deserving of the “power tool” tag.
Lightweight And Versatile
At less than 130 pounds, this mobile table saw can be easily moved and transported whenever necessary. Setting it down can be easily done with its built-in stand. Another feature of this portable tool that I could not help but notice is its versatility. This tool can rip and cut one minute, and transform into a router or miter table the next.
Craftsman Portable Table Saw Is Without Peers
This table saw is the closest thing to having the perfect power tool for cutting or routing. I’ve had the privilege of using a lot of tools and I can honestly say that this table saw is easily one of the best, if not the best, in its class. Despite its strengths, however, the Craftsman portable is not without a chink in its otherwise solid armor.
Its flaw, if it can qualify as such, is in having a single switch for both its normal and routing function. In connection with this, the saw functionality has the tendency to bypass the power switch when it the cord is connected directly to an independent power cord and not to the power outlet on the tool’s body.
This design oversight is, however, covered by the user manual that goes with the machine. Hence, a prudent woodworker or handyman would have no problem taking the proper precaution. If Craftsman’s manufacturer can correct this flaw in subsequent versions of this otherwise feature-packed tool, there is no doubt that it would be the go-to-tool for every contractor.
Nevertheless, this table saw should not be pulled down by such a minor and manageable flaw. In the end, I can honestly say that this Craftsman Portable Table Saw model is an essential tool that every serious woodworker should have.
Craftsman Table Saw Accessories – Learning Their Importance The Hard Way
I’ve always thought that spending hard-earned cash for any Craftsman Table Saw Accessories was unnecessary, if not a complete waste of money. This is not to say, of course, that these accessories are useless. In the contrary, I believe that accessories can make the experience of using any power tool more complete. Nevertheless, I always had complete trust in my Craftsman table saw that sprucing it up with any of the accessories available in the market never crossed my mind. After all, with my experience and the reliability of my power tool, the chances of something going wrong was as good as my chances of winning the lottery without ever placing a bet.
An Accidental Discovery Of The Necessity Of Craftsman Table Saw Accessories
They say that many of the most important things in life are discovered by accident. They just didn’t say that the accident could involve me and my fingers on the one hand, and my trusty table saw on the other. Yes, this “experienced” craftsman had to learn the hard way the importance of using accessories that can make the experience of using power tools safer. I was going through the process of cutting wood that I needed for a project when an episode of momentary carelessness caused my fingers to go where they should not have been – close to the table saw’s blades.
Accessories Can Save Lives, Or Limbs
That incident landed my in the emergency room, but luckily for me, and my fingers, the blades merely grazed my skin. Even so, the thought of being known in my neighborhood as the expert craftsman with missing fingers sent shivers down my spine. Not because I was so afraid of parting with my body parts but because of the thought that the accident could have been prevented had I used the proper accessories.
Stay Safe With The Right Craftsman Table Saw Accessories
It is an elementary rule in craftsmanship to never let one’s fingers, or any body parts for that matter, get close to blades and other sharp parts of power tools. How I ended up ignoring that rule is something I’d regret my whole life. Had I used clamps and a featherboard, the accident would not have happened. At any rate, I could no longer go back and correct what I did wrong that day.
What is important is that I learned my lesson fast. So much so that I ordered clamps, featherboards, pushsticks, and push pads as soon as I arrived home from the E.R. Indeed, this incident humbled me and made me realize that no amount of experience and skill would be enough to keep me perpetually safe from accidents when using power tools.
Accessories Are Good Investments
Unless you’d rather lose a limb or two than spend a couple of hundreds on accessories, buying these essential tool extensions should be a priority of every power tool owner. I had to learn the hard way the importance of these accessories, you don’t have to. So, before it’s too late, get some good Craftsman Table Saw Accessories and ensure safe working conditions in your workplace or shop.
